A Nursery for Preparing Scientists for the Attainment of Nigeria’s Vision 2020

Osun State University is pleased to announce its maiden edition of the Pre-degree Science Programme. The Osun State Government shares the national Vision of Nigeria emerging among the top 20 economies by the year 2020. Scientists are to play a major role in the realisation of the Vision. Consequently, the Executive Governor of the State, Prince (Dr) Olagunsoye Oyinlola has directed Osun State University to take steps to contribute to the stock of scientists who will drive both the national Vision and be essential human capital for the development of Osun State. The UNIOSUN Pre-degree Science Programme is designed as the nursery for preparing such scientists.

The Programme: Osun State University Pre-degree Science Programme is an intensive 9-month course. English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics shall be taught based on NUC Minimum Academic Standards. Mode of delivery shall include lectures, tutorials, field trips and laboratory practicals.

Who should apply: You are eligible to apply for the programme if you have interest in science and a desire to become a great scientist; as well as have at least credit-level passes in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in the Senior School Certificate Examination.

Venue of Training Programme: The programme shall be run at the Ejigbo Campus of Osun State University.

Cost of Training: The programme is expected to be self-financing. Participants will therefore be expected to pay appropriate fees to be determined before the admission list is published.

Conditions for transiting to 100-level on completion of the programme: In order to be admitted into 100-level degree programmes, candidates must pass all the five subjects offered in the PDS year and should obtain good scores in the 2008 University Matriculation Examination (UME).

Programmes to which successful candidates will be admitted: Successful candidates shall be admitted into 100-level of first degree courses in Health Sciences (Medicine), Science, Engineering, Technology and Science Education.

How to apply: Interested candidates are to apply following eight easy steps:

1. Go to the UNIOSUN web site at www.uniosun.org (you are already at the site)
2. Download the Pre-degree Science Programme Form (click here to download)
3. Complete the form.
4. Go to the branch of any of the designated banks nearest to you.
5. Pay five thousand naira into the relevant UNIOSUN account for Pre-degree Science Programme.
6. Submit the completed form to the bank official.
7. Collect the completed acknowledgement slip from the bank official.
8. Post a photocopy of the acknowledgement slip and your teller to: Director, UNIOSUN Project, c/o Ministry of Education, Secretariat, Osogbo

Designated Banks

Closing Date: Closing date for the receipt of completed application form in the designated banks is November 30, 2007
